How to Make Moving Day a Stress-Free Event

The day of your move to your new house in a different city is drawing near. You are a ball of nerves because it is such a huge event that you need to organize well. Failing to cover all the bases can send things into chaos, and nobody wants that.

To help you experience a successful, stress-free moving day, these are the best tips to implement:

1. Provide a copy of the moving checklist weeks before moving day.

It always helps when you are not the sole person who knows the tasks to take care of for the move. By providing all the people moving with you a copy of the checklist, everybody can do his or her bit in his or her own time to clear off items on the list. Just make sure that you all report to each other about accomplished tasks right away.

2. Hire your movers at least a month before the move.

It is imperative to have moving pros helping you on the day of relocation long before you commence packing; so hire movers as early as possible. This is one responsibility that you can forget about after you have made the proper arrangements.

3. Start curating your possessions immediately.

Go online and research packing strategies to make the process not only faster but also more efficient. For instance, expert movers advise putting cables and little screws and nails in resealable bags and throwing in a Polaroid picture of the cable and hardware configuration of the appliances and furniture to which these belong. This is also the smart way to pack and reassemble your home’s important interior elements.

6. If you have really young children,  hire a babysitter to take care of them as the older ones tackle packing tasks.

By getting someone you can rely on to care for the little ones, you can focus on the task at hand, which will help you get more things done for the day. It is always a source of convenience having help in taking care of kids who demand both time and attention.

7. Contact utility companies and banks to inform them about the move.

Set an arrangement that will result in a new system or the termination of services and billing to your name. This will take care of any possible confusion that might require you to pay penalties.

8. Create a moving day budget.

If you will be moving to a distant location, it may take you a few days to get there. Better cover all the expenses you will have for the trip. You may have to include accommodation and several stops at dining establishments, as well as petrol stations.

Do the math for all of these and allocate an adequate amount of cash for them.

9. Pack essentials in overnight bags that you have easy access to.

Meds, money, chargers, hygiene products, and other personal items that your family needs should be physically with you during the trip. So, gather them all in your carry-on or overnight bags for convenience.

10. Create a clear path in the house to make movement comfortable for the movers.

Open doors wide, put rugs out of the way, ditto with potted plants, and just clear out a path from the house to the moving truck. Speed up the process by getting rid of obstacles that can make movement tricky for the movers.
